The Peregrine Falcon

The Peregrine Falcon is a bird of prey. It used to be called a Duck Hawk. Both the English and scientific name (modern name) mean "Wandering Falcon". It is the fastest bird in the world. It can be found nearly everywhere on Earth except extreme polar regions, very high mountains, and most tropical rainforests. While its diet consists mostly of medium sized birds, the Peregrine Falcon will occasionally hunt small mammals, small reptiles, and insects.  Peregrine Falcons have a body length of 34 to 58 cm, and a wingspan of 80 to 120 cm. The male and female have similar markings and plumage. The female is larger than the male. The Peregrine Falcon is an endangered species in many areas.
